Ressac (noun): the backward surge of a wave after it breaks against the shore, where the returning water meets the incoming swell.

Ressac is a macOS application for diagnosing and repairing damaged WAV files. It reconstructs damaged file structures when the underlying audio data is still recoverable. Repairs are non-destructive, and Ressac preserves metadata wherever possible.

Structural WAV repair

Repairs broken RIFF headers, incorrect file and data sizes, misplaced chunks, and other structural inconsistencies that prevent software from reading a file correctly.

Safe repair and advanced audio salvage

Safe Repair applies only high-confidence corrections and never overwrites the source file. Salvage mode can recover existing audio from missing or zero-length data headers, interrupted recording fragments, and ambiguous trailing regions when you explicitly authorize it. Every repaired file is written to a separate output.

Professional metadata support and batch processing

Supports RIFF, RF64, and BW64 files while preserving broadcast metadata, markers, unknown chunks, and original padding wherever possible. Ressac can inspect multiple files, explain detected problems, and present the proposed repair plan before processing. Every output is reopened and structurally validated.

Common questions

How much does Ressac cost?

Ressac is completely free.

Can Ressac repair any damaged WAV file?

Ressac will do its best, but no repair tool can guarantee that every damaged file is recoverable. Because Ressac never overwrites the source file, it is safe to try. If Ressac cannot repair a file, contact us to arrange a file transfer. Examining it may help us improve support for that particular type of damage.

Will Ressac be available for Windows?

A Windows version is not currently planned, although that may change in the future.
